"Songs of the Great Lakes" Concert

7:30 PM Concert: Black Box Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 for general public, $1 for students.

The Beaumier Heritage Concert Series presents an evening of songs written by some of the Upper and Lower Peninsula’s greatest songwriters about the Great Lake State. "Song of the Great Lakes” will be presented by Pat Niemisto (former NMU grad and native of Pelkie), Chris Skellenger and Bryan Poirer of Maple City, Michigan.  The three songwriters have been at the very heart of the folk music scene of the northwest Lower Peninsula for decades in various ensembles and as a solo artists.  All three have been members of the New Third Coast, one of Michigan’s longest standing folk ensembles and have recorded several records.  Niemisto has performed at the Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival many times with his Finnish music duo, Lunappi.

In addition to their performance, the three artists will be conducting a songwriting workshop at the Beaumier Center in Gries Hall on Saturday from 1 – 2p.m.  The workshop is free to the public.
