New Forum on Free Speech and the American Campus with Thomas Cushman

Northern's new forum for discussion of the meaning of free speech and thought on campus, the Center for Academic and Intellectual Freedom at NMU (one of the fastest growing institutions of its kind), is proud to present our inaugural lecture of the 2017-18 season.

Thomas Cushman, founding director of The Freedom Project at Wellesley College, will address the timely topic, "Who Gets to Speak and What Do They Get to Say?" on Thursday night, Dec. 7, 7:30 to 9:00pm in the University Center Nicolet Room.

All are welcome—and warmly invited—to this ecumenical, bipartisan (cosponsored by College Democrats, College Republicans, Young Americans for Liberty) and nonpartisan exercise in robustly exploring the multiple meanings and lived experiences of civil society today. Cushman is a leading expert, exponent and exemplar of all this—we are fortunate to have him.
