FACULTY AWARD PROGRAMS We are pleased to announce three faculty recognition award programs for the 2017-18 academic year. They include: Excellence in Teaching Award: To recognize the teaching excellence of NMU full-time faculty. Excellence in Scholarship Award: To recognize the excellence of scholarly activities of NMU full-time faculty. Technology Innovation Award: To recognize exemplary faculty use of technology in the areas of teaching, research, and community service. The recipients of all three faculty awards will be recognized at the Celebration of Excellence in Teaching & Scholarship scheduled for Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 4:00 pm in the Peter White Lounge. I hope each of you is thinking of a colleague who deserves to be nominated for one of these prestigious awards. GRE Prep

If you are planning to get an academic Master's or Doctorate in the United States and Canada, you will need to take the GRE standardized test. The Mathematics and Computer Science Department in conjunction with McNair Scholars will be offering a GRE Prep course Mondays and Thursdays at 5:00 P.M. in WEST 2901. We will cover the Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing Portions. The course is free and open to the public. You can come whenever you like; you don't have to come every time.

Nursing BSN applications accepted 9/1-10/1/17

The online application for the winter 2018 semester BSN program will be open from September 1 to October 1, 2017 at http://www.nmu.edu/nursing/application. If you have completed or are enrolled in fall 2017 semester for all BSN prerequisite courses*, you must apply to be considered for admission to the BSN program. If needed, contact your adviser for the appropriate semester for you to apply. The BSN application for winter 2018 admission will close on October 1 at 11:59 p.m. and no late applications will be accepted. The application will require attachments. The requirements will differ depending on your academic history. Our guidelines require you to attach the following: A copy of your unofficial NMU student transcript. Include current semester of classes & GPA. (This can be requested through your MyNMU Student Services tab and saved as a .htm, .html or .pdf file.) A NMU Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) and unofficial transcripts for all colleges or universities you have attended if you have earned less than 12 credits at NMU. If not previously provided to the School of Nursing or changes have occurred, Post Baccalaureate students transferring pre-requisite courses from another institution must complete the “Post Baccalaureate Prerequisite Check List”. This form can be found by following this link: http://www.nmu.edu/nursing/sites/DrupalNursing/files/UserFiles/Post_bacc_checklist.pdf, and is also available on the NMU Nursing website. The student must print this form and bring it to the Registrar’s office (2202 Hedgcock) to be completed. Allow 5 business days for processing. This form is then to be picked up from the Registrar’s office by the student and submitted to the Nursing office (2301 New Science Facility) in an envelope sealed and stamped by the Registrar. This is due no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, October 2. If you have received AP (advanced placement) credit for or Chemistry (CH109 or CH107/108 or CH111/112) you will need to attach a copy of your official scoring report from the College Board. If you are transferring from another nursing program, please provide a letter of good standing from the director of the previous nursing program. Apply early since there are no exceptions to the deadline date. *Required nursing prerequisites: AH 102, BI 203, BI 207/201, BI 208/202, CH 109, HN 301A, HN 301B, PY 100 (select other courses may be accepted, see your adviser if you have questions)

James will give an introduction to the Peace Corps as an organization and his specific role in Cambodia. A good opportunity to learn about how this service allows you to be involved in a foreign culture and for students interested in teaching English abroad.
